BOOKED, a new documentary, takes an urgently-needed look at tourism, the world’s biggest service-sector industry which is currently reeling from the twin threats of a global pandemic and climate change. Filmed in popular tourist destinations from Hawaii to Key West, the film follows community leaders, environmentalists and tourism workers who are resisting a return to “business as usual” and offering new ways to travel. It also stops in Costa Rica, the tiny country that pioneered equitable, sustainable tourism and made it national policy. BOOKED argues that our common future depends, to a significant degree, on rethinking tourism.
